About Bulgaria

Bulgaria is located in the South Eastern part of Europe on the Balkan Peninsula and borders to south to Turkey and Greece, to west with Macedonia (FYROM) and Serbia, to north with Romania and to east with Black sea. Bulgaria lies on the transition line between two climate zones influences the climate, soils, vegetation and animal species. All of them are characterized by great diversity. The country falls within the southern part of the temperate climate zone with sub tropical influence.  Bulgaria’s geographic position also determines the relatively wide angle of sunlight that falls on the country, making the country predominantly sunny which creates excellent preconditions for the development of tourism.Since 2007 Bulgaria is a member country of the European Union.  The official language is Bulgarian, the official alphabet is Cyrillic (the Cyrillic alphabet was created in Bulgaria and is currently being used in many countries like Russia, Serbia, Macedonia, etc.) and the official religion is Orthodox Christianity.

The Bulgarian currency is called “lev” (plural “leva”). And if you need to call somebody in Bulgaria you should use the prefix +359 as a country code. Shell you need an Emergency service (like police, doctor or fire brigade) you can use the emergency number 112 just like everywhere in the EU.

The capital of Bulgaria is Sofia. Some of the major cities are: Varna, Burgas, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Ruse, etc. The most famous winter resorts are Bansko, Pamporovo and Borovets and during the summer you can go to the seaside resorts like: Sunny Beach, Albena, Golden Sands, etc.
